1. infinity-imagined:

The DNA Replication Complex, an assembly of proteins that synthesizes new DNA before cell division.  It consists of Helicase, Primase, Single-strand binding proteins, and DNA polymerase III.  Because DNA strands can only be copied in one direction, the complex must pull out loops of one strand and replicate it in fragments.  At this moment there are hundreds of trillions of these molecular machines in constant activity within your body.

  2. Mail’ette - A designer-friendly and simple-to-use approval system

As a designer, I’ve often wondered if there were better ways to manage the approval of designs with clients. This process can be frustrating for both parties involved if all your “approval system” consists of is simply sending an email with some attached designs.

I thought about building my own system as part of my website at first, even if it was done manually by creating an approval page (from a saved template) for each client. But I just didn’t have the time to invest in such a thing. Plus, I wanted to do it properly and forward thinking-ly after all. I’m not a fan of good-enough-for-now short term stuff.

I also didn’t have enough freelance clients to invest in something like Basecamp.

    Enter Mail’ette!

Mail’ette is a simple-to-use approval system for designers. It provides an easy way of managing and receiving client approval and feedback. And it does it in a very friendly and elegant way.

  4. Someone’s in the jungle…
My first hobby portfolio piece is for After Effects. It started off as a go-through of this Video Copilot tutorial about building a jungle scene and some pseudo-3D text. But I really wanted to have some fun with it, so I dropped the text and decided to toss in … something else. See if you can tell what it is in this preview image.
I also explored some new expression use, and building a 3D object with 3D layer positioning.
I’m just putting together the final touches. Once it’s done it should be about 10-15 seconds in length. Just a quick exploration of 3D layers, scene building, expressions, and the AE camera.
Can’t wait to do more hobby pieces!

  7. New website is up!
After forever, I finally finished up my own website for my freelance work. I’ll slowly add things to it over time, but I finally have something up and running.
It only took me 4 years…
I am now a legitimate businessperson.

  8. Ecommerce

Before the fantastic world of online shopping people generally went outdoors to real stores to purchase whatever they needed. Impulse purchases only happened if you were in the store looking around.

After online shopping a new age of laziness and hyper-impulse purchases began…

    Buying stuff online

Client asks for online store for their website

I dreaded every time ecommerce came into the picture during a website project.

There are so many things to take into account. How do you store the products? And how does the client manage all of their products? And how does it fit onto the website seamlessly?

After some thorough googling I found some shop builder websites that were either very limited, or so complex that every click destroys the fabric of the universe and kills kittens simultaneously.

But then I found another one called Shopify and it is full of all kinds of awesome. It’s looking good so far. It’s easy to use, provides you with virtually unlimited customization in terms of design, and has plenty of add-ons to keep your needs fulfilled. It’s pretty awesome.

But could it be that easy?

It may just be. Stay tuned to find out.

  9. Did a logo/name introduction video for Les Grands Chais de France via Lopta Inc.

They wanted something to introduce their wine brand for a wine trade show video.

Really fun project. I pretty much had carte blanche so I did some experimenting with some pseudo-3D stuff with 2D wine bottle images and some light effects.

Here it is in the final video:

  10. Welcome

I used to have a blog a long time ago. I wrote about life and my thoughts on life and other life related things. I think some people had read it… maybe just out of pity. It was one of those teenage blogs where you thought you were being so philosophical and groundbreaking and deep. Oh yeah. Hot stuff. You missed out.

So here I am at it once again (because the first one was SO successful) only this time I figured I’d share something a little more interesting than my awesome life stories.

I’m going to share some projects which I really enjoyed working on and my thoughts on them as well.

And maybe I’ll throw in some thoughts and observations on things here and there in the general “life” area too. Because there’s gold out there, just waiting to be dug up with The Pickaxe Of Win. The Winaxe? No that’s stupid…

Anyway, I know, I know, you’re already excited. This is going to be the read of your life and you can’t wait. But we don’t always get what we want right away so you’ll have to wait.

Thanks for reading and I hope you find some of what I put up here interesting in some way.
